Star Trek universe for Season 2 of
Picard? The first letter of the last sentence is the answer. John de Lancie will return as Q for Jean-Luc s sophomore outing, but don t expect him to be a highly exaggerated character like he was in
Next Generation. Recently chatting with
The Hollywood Reporter, series co-creator/executive producer Akiva Goldsman explained how Q will be presented in the more sobering world of
Picard. [Co-showrunner] Terry Matalas and I don t pretend that the interstitial years didn t happen, he said. No, obviously, chronological time is less relevant to Q. The time between shows is probably not even the blink of an eye in Q time if you even have Q time. But we definitely chose to follow suit when it came to him. So as we tried to evolve the other characters, the same is true of Q. This is a show of a different time with actors of a different age. We re now talking about the issues that come up in the last [stage] of your life. We wanted a Q that cou

Today is First Contact Day, or at least it will be in 42 years, making this the… pre-anniversary of the day in
Star Trek canon when mankind first made contact with an alien race (specifically the Vulcans). Much like with
Star Wars Day (May 4) and

Star Trek Stars Launch Trek Against Pancreatic Cancer
✖
Star Trek veterans Jonathan Frakes, Kitty Swink, and Armin Shimerman are coming together as part of PurpleStride s campaign to combat pancreatic cancer. The trio are offering fans who support their campaign page before May 1 to win a 30-minute Zoom call with them. The prize isn t a random drawing but a reward given to the person who does the most fundraising. It s like most charity runs you don t have to personally donate, but collect pledges from others on behalf of the
Trek team. The contest ends at midnight PST on May 1, with the PurpleStride event itself taking place later that day.

It s true! When casting for the show was coming together, Denise Crosby was on deck to be cast as Counselor Troi, not Lt. Tasha Yar, and Kevin Peter Hall (
Predator,
Without Warning) was considered for both Lt. Cmdr. Data and Lt. Geordi LaForge. As interesting as those choices might be, nothing comes close to Yaphet nearly landing the part of Jean-Luc Picard. What s more, is that Yaphet turned down the role.
Back in 2015, Kotto spoke to The Big Issue about denying the role, and how he regrets not boldly going where no man has gone before:
Wesley Snipes almost played Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Where previously surfaced documentation from the Star Trek: The Next Generation s pre-production listed Snipes as one possibility to play the role that ultimately went to LeVar Burton, Snipes confirmed it in a new [.]
