For the most part I think Canada has been good about setting restrictions on professional sports to help limit the spread of COVID-19.
The government did not allow Canada’s lone Major League Baseball and lone National Basketball Association teams to play in Toronto and have continuous cross-border flights.

Good call considering the Toronto Raptors COVID-19 positive tests resulting in postponed games before the NBA All-Star Break in early March. It took nearly a month before the Raptors had a full roster available to play due to ongoing COVID-19 protocols that affected not only the players, but also the coaching staff.

In recent columns I’ve stated my disapproval of professional athletes being allowed to continue to work in a non-essential business during the COVID-19 pandemic, suggested what they should have focused their efforts on and mentioned money lost and “earned” over the last year.
This column will summarize some of the many COVID-19 outbreaks across professional sports, and despite the warning signs, the leagues played on. When it comes down to health and safety, is it all worth it?
