No conviction for sex offender wanting to become pilot

A Dunedin man who sexually offended against two boys has avoided a conviction, paving the way for a career as a commercial pilot.
The 20-year-old, whose name was permanently suppressed this afternoon, appeared in the Dunedin District Court after pleading guilty to four charges of sexual conduct with a person under the age of 16 and one of sending an indecent communication to a person under the age of 18.
Judge Kevin Phillips said giving the defendant a criminal record would destroy him. There s no issue . that if there s convictions entered, his opportunities in relation to a commercial flying career are ended, he said.

Authorities are working to fix a West Auckland pathway that has partially collapsed after an underground water main burst.
Emergency services were called to an area on West Coast Rd, near Glengarry Rd, in Glen Eden after reports that concrete was starting to crumble late last night.
Paving of on-ramp to State Road 417 causing overnight closures
Ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Tuesday nights

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Paving operations are set to cause overnight closures of the on-ramp to State Road 417 from John Young Parkway in Orange County.
The closures are set to begin Monday at 10 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. Tuesday and repeat on Tuesday night, according to the Central Florida Expressway Authority. A map of the detour can be seen above.
