Many families, fearing for their lives, sought to migrate to North America to escape the hatred.

Some of these families found their way to Chatham, including those of Joe Fridenberg, Sam Kovinski, Irving Kopstein and Morris Katzman. These are all men I have written about in previous columns.
Because of discrimination, these families would have difficulty finding any kind of employment, and to survive they would have to provide their own sustenance.
