Rob Saxton, a former Albany teacher and administrator and Oregon s first deputy superintendent of public instruction, will interview Monday with the Albany School Board to potentially become interim superintendent.
The meeting will be at 5 p.m. and will be available for public viewing on the district s YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/c/GreaterAlbanyPublicSchools. Public comment on the candidate will be taken in writing in advance of the meeting.
Board members voted 4-1 in a special meeting Friday, with Michael Thomson dissenting, to suspend Board Policy CBB, which outlines the usual procedure for a superintendent search. They voted unanimously to authorize the district s legal counsel, Paul Dakopolos, to negotiate a contract with a prospective interim superintendent candidate subject to board approval at the next board meeting.

Summer camp spots filled at record rates throughout the mid-valley this year as pandemic restrictions loosened and families scrambled to get their children into social activities again.
Organizers say there might be a few spots left, however â if you hurry. They ve been extremely popular this year, said Lacey Moore, outdoor environmental education and camps coordinator for Corvallis Parks & Recreation. This summer, everybody wants to go to camp.
Most of the Corvallis programs are full, Moore said, but she encourages parents to check out the website anyway, https://www.corvallisoregon.gov/parksrec/page/parks-and-recreation-activity-guide. I still think it s worthwhile for parents to get on the wait list, because if we can open up more sections or cohorts for students . we have some more flexibility in terms of adding students and again increasing cohort size as long as we have the staff for it.

The Corvallis City Council moved closer to approving one of the largest developments in the city in at least a decade.
Councilors voted unanimously on Monday night to tentatively move forward with an annexation agreement for 118 acres of property near the 53rd Street roundabout.
The decision, which still requires the council to approve formal findings at a future meeting, likely means housing â perhaps more than 1,000 units of it â will be built on the property. It would be the largest single development in Corvallis in at least a decade.
In recent years the largest developments have been student housing, including the Retreat (approximately 1,000 bedrooms), Domain Corvallis (approximately 900 bedrooms) and the Sierra complex at Washington Yards (approximately 700 bedrooms).
