WILLMAR, Minn. Law enforcement is asking people to check ice conditions after at least three incidents where people fell through thin ice have been reported in the region.
Multiple incidents of people falling through thin ice over holiday weekend in west central Minnesota
Two incidents on Saturday, one in Holding Township in Stearns County, and one in Norway Lake Township in Kandiyohi County, along with an incident on Friday, this time at Games Lake in Kandiyohi, resulted in people riding ATVs on lakes in the area breaking through thin ice. 5:43 pm, Dec. 27, 2020 ×

ATV Breaks Through Thin Ice on Stearns County Lake

Lori Hanson of Avon had been driving their 2017 Polaris Ranger side by side when it broke through the ice. They were both able to get out of the vehicle and make it safely out of the water to a nearby icehouse.

The ATV is submerged in what is believed to be approximately 27 feet of water. The area had recently had open water and not long ago frozen over due to waterfowl in the area. Hanson has made arrangements with a private tow service to have the ATV removed from the lake.
