On February 24, the Atlantic Council’s empowerME hosted Hood for a conversation moderated by empowerME Director Amjad Ahmad about US economic development priorities in the Middle East. Hood elaborated on entrepreneurship and innovation, how to economically empower youth, women, and marginalized communities, as well as the challenges and opportunities the pandemic and climate change have introduced. ​​​​Below is a summary of his key points.

US MEPI grant AIESEC for NGO capacity building MANAMA, February 15, 2021 AIESEC in Bahrain has been awarded a grant to conduct a capacity building project for 8 NGOs in Bahrain.    The award under the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Grant from the US Embassy supports the projects undertaken by AIESEC in October 2020.   The NGOs taking part in the programme are: Rakaez Social Society, AlMutalaq Women Society, Bahrain Alwani Society, Bahrain Autistics Society, Fares AlFursan Center, Bahrain Food Bank, Bahrain Association of Parents and Friends of Disabled.   “The NGOs were selected on their needs and concentrated on those groups that lacked the basic infrastructure in terms of tracking funds, HR capacity, reporting systems of their activities, and impact measurement,” says Ahmed Shabbir, AIESEC in Bahrain’s Managing Director.

Lokman Slim, prominent Hezbollah critic, shot dead in south Lebanon France 24 04/02/2021 NEWS WIRES © France 24 Lokman Slim, a prominent Lebanese Shiite publisher who criticised Iran-backed Hezbollah, was found shot dead in a car in southern Lebanon on Thursday, two security sources and his family said. A judge following the case said the body of Lokman Slim had four bullets in the head and one in the back, in the first such killing of a known activist in years. One of the security sources also said Slim, who ran a research centre and made films, was shot in the head. The second said Slim s phone was found earlier on the side of a road.
