In Georgia, confusion over firing Fulton County election chief continues; state monitor weighs in
ATLANTA The Fulton County Commission made no decision on the county elections director’s firing Wednesday, hours after a state monitor said the ouster of Richard Barron alone wouldn’t fix Fulton’s long-running problems.
Fulton’s elections board voted to fire Barron on Tuesday, and since then it has been an open question as to whether that decision must be ratified by a majority of the county commission, which met in closed-door executive session for nearly two hours Wednesday.
After the meeting, a county spokeswoman provided The Atlanta Journal-Constitution with a statement saying Barron was still elections director, “so for that reason no interim [director] has been named and we are not aware of any plans to do so at this time.”

ATLANTA A local government official is suggesting that many family members of the Atlanta fire department may have gotten COVD-19 vaccines before they were eligible.
During Wednesday s Fulton County Board of Commissioners meeting, Vice-Chair Natalie Hall discussed the memo that was leaked last week from the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
Fulton County Elections Director Remains in Job After Vote
Commissioners in Georgia’s largest county deadlocked on Feb. 17 in a vote to remove its elections director, allowing him to remain in his job for now.
The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections voted a day earlier to remove Director Richard Barron, and sent its recommendation to remove Barron from the Board of Commissioners.
The seven-person board voted 3–3, with Commissioner Natalie Hall abstaining, on whether to accept the recommendation, so the motion failed.
Commission Chair Robb Pitts told WSB-TV, “We need to get an opinion from the county attorney as to whether it’s properly before us or not, but the bottom line though right now is Mr. Barron is still the director.”

Georgia s Fulton County Elections Director Richard Barron may keep his job after all.
The Board of Registration and Elections voted on Tuesday to fire Barron, who has held the post since 2013, after a turbulent 2020 general election and two U.S. Senate runoff contests, but on Wednesday, county commissioners failed to affirm a recommendation to terminate him, which stretches the debate into next month.
“Barron has received wide praise from Republicans and Democrats, for putting in place the most extensive expansion of voting- and voter-access in Georgia history during the November Presidential and January U.S. Senate Runoff elections,” Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman said in a statement.
