Veteran outreach program works to prevent suicides in Wisconsin communities with firearm safety initiative

Mason Veteran Peer Outreach Program, in collaboration with the Southeastern Wisconsin Suicide Prevention Taskforce and BeThereWis.com, is bringing the Gun Shop Project and Safe Storage Program to local communities across Wisconsin. The program, developed by Safe Communities of Madison-Dane County, works with Wisconsin gun shops and ranges to provide two levels of support to the gun-owner community that address firearm suicides. Firearm safety: Gun shops will provide materials to customers and staff about suicide prevention and responsible firearm ownership developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), American Foundation on Suicide Prevention, and the VA.

The five-story facility will replace the current inpatient building at the College Hill campus on Hamilton Avenue, and the 160,000 square-foot facility will be 68% larger than the current building. The new center, slated to open in late 2023, will include private rooms for all patients to allow families to spend more time there and stay overnight with their child.

Image Michelle Lynn Lynn had previously served as the CEO of the Hospital for Behavioral Medicine in Worcester, according to the announcement, which was dated April 1. She also served as CEO of Valley Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.. “She was the unanimous choice for the CEO position,” said Jean Scallon, regional vice president of signature healthcare services and a member of the search committee at Westborough, in a statement. Lynn holds masters degrees in counseling and business administration from Arizona State University and the University of Phoenix. It was not immediately clear what happened to her predecessor, Erika Heckman, who, according to her LinkedIn, assumed the position of CEO in January of 2020.
