House of Lords appoints new Commissioners for Standards

On Wednesday 26 May, the House of Lords approved the appointment of Martin Jelley QPM and Akbar Khan as House of Lords Commissioners for Standards.
Commissioners for Standards
The Commissioners for Standards is responsible for the independent and impartial investigation of alleged breaches of the House of Lords Code of Conduct, including bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct.
New Commissioners
Martin Jelly and Akbar Khan will take over from the current Commissioner for Standards, Lucy Scott-Moncrieff, on 1 June and 1 July respectively.
Martin Jelly
Martin Jelley QPM is Chief Constable of Warwickshire Police Force (retiring June). He has worked in policing for 33 years, including as the National Police Chiefs Council lead on vetting, professional and ethical standards. He was awarded the Queen s Police Medal for distinguished service
Daylin Mitchell, 35, is the youngest member of Premier Alan Winde s cabinet.
Mitchell has served as the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has appointed a new Transport and Public Works MEC.
Daylin Mitchell, 35, will become the youngest member of Winde s cabinet.
Last month, Mitchell s predecessor, Bonginkosi Madikizela, who was also the provincial leader of the DA, resigned from office. His resignation came after he was suspended from the party amid claims that he lied about his qualifications.
Mitchell is the deputy chief whip in the Western Cape legislature and the chairperson of both the Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works and the Conduct Committee for Members of Parliament.
