Updated depth chart (after camp reporting day on 27 July 2021)
Don’t blink.
Two players were waived:
TE Tyrone Swoops
The resulting depth chart has 87 names (42 offense, 42 defense, 3 ST specialists).
Of those 87, six players have been placed on reserve lists (PUP, NFI (injured), NFI (illness), COVID reserve), dropping the number of healthy and active players to 81.
The team will undoubtedly be adding 4 more players in short order. Some tryouts had already been reported on Tuesday. More From Hogs Haven
Washington signed Samuel to a three-year, $34.5 million contract in March, luring him away from the Carolina Panthers.
Samuel’s trip to the PUP list was one of many roster moves for Washington on Tuesday. The team also designated cornerback Greg Stroman on PUP and placed right tackle Cornelius Lucas on the COVID-19 reserve list. That means Lucas, expected to compete for a starting spot, either tested positive for the virus or was exposed to someone who had it.
Safety Deshazor Everett and defensive tackle Tim Settle were put on the “Non-Football Illness” to begin camp. Defensive tackle Devaroe Lawrence was labeled with a “Non-Football Injury.”

Copied!
With the Patriots cutting [fullback Danny] Vitale, do you think they are getting rid of all the COVID opt-outs one-by-one, spread over a longer period not to make it so obvious that they were disappointed with those players. And do you expect to see cuts or trades for [TE Matt] LaCosse, [RB Brandon] Bolden and [LB Dont a] Hightower?

On the surface, it might appear more than a coincidence that so many of New England s opt-outs are no longer on the roster. However, I don t believe it s some grand conspiracy. The reality is that the players who were either released or, in Marcus Cannon s case, traded, were in for an uphill battle to make the roster anyway. Najee Toran was a fringe offensive lineman, and Marqise Lee clearly would have had difficulty unseating the two veteran free agents signed this offseason (Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne).

BOSTON (AP) The Patriots have signed safety and 2021 sixth-round draft pick Joshuah Bledsoe and re-signed free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer.
The team announced the signings on Tuesday. New England also has released offensive lineman Najee Toran.
Bledsoe is the fourth member of the Patriots 2021 draft class to sign. He joins fifth-round linebacker Cameron McGrone, sixth-round offensive lineman Will Sherman, along with receiver Tre Nixon, who was taken in the seventh round.
Hoyer continues his third stint in New England after spending last season as one of Cam Newton s backups. He appeared in two games last season, starting one after Newton tested positive for COVID-19.
