Najib s defence fails to grill witness over signatures in bank transfers

1MDB TRIAL | Najib Abdul Razak’s defence team today tried to grill former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman over the validity of signatures on key bank documents for millions of ringgit of transfers.
However, during the RM2.28 billion 1MDB corruption trial against the former prime minister, the prosecution objected to the question as the 10th prosecution witness is not a handwriting witness.
Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah then told Najib’s defence that they can raise the issue during oral submissions toward the end of the prosecution stage of trial.

Former Umno leader Lokman Noor Adam’s right to freedom of speech does not justify threatening witnesses in Najib Abdul Razak’s RM2.28 billion corruption trial, the court heard today.
Deputy public prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram submitted this before the Kuala Lumpur High Court during the hearing of the prosecution’s committal bid against the former party supreme council member.

Najib Abdul Razak told the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today that he was angry at being deceived in connection with a letter of support for a mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems maintenance and operation contract at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to be awarded to a company owned by former Sabah infrastructure development minister Peter Anthony.
The former prime minister, who for the first time testified as a prosecution witness, said then UMS board of directors chairperson Zaki Azmi during a meeting at the Parliament House informed him that UMS had never issued a letter or given any support and agreement to award the contract to Peter s company, namely Syarikat Asli Jati Engineering Sdn Bhd.
Shafee labels tax suit against him as political move

Lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah dismissed the RM9.41 million tax suit against him as a political move .
The legal representative for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak today contended that the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has yet to serve the suit’s cause papers on him until today.
“We have not received anything. How did IRB issue this (suit)? Very unethical. It has not been served on me yet, but it (news about the tax suit) is already.
