NEWARK - The trial of a Lexington woman accused of attempting to terminate her late-term pregnancy and failing to seek medical care for her infant is expected to begin this week in Licking County.
Kalina V.E. Gillum, 22, and her then-boyfriend Braden C. Mull, 26, of Newark, were each charged with one count each involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony; endangering children, a third-degree felony; tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; and abuse of a corpse, a fifth-degree felony, in February 2020. Mull has since pleaded guilty to one count each child endangering, a third-degree felony; and abuse of a corpse, a fifth-degree felony, in October and awaits sentencing.
Columbus man charged with attempted murder in Buckeye Lake stabbing

BUCKEYE LAKE - A Columbus man was charged with attempted murder on Monday after he allegedly stabbed a woman in Buckeye Lake.
Bryan M. Mackey, 33, of Columbus, was charged with one count of attempted murder, a first-degree felony, in Licking County Common Pleas Court on Monday.
According to a criminal complaint, Buckeye Lake police responded to the first block of Myers Avenue in Buckeye Lake on Friday for a reported stabbing. On scene, police said they made contact with the victim, who they said was covered in blood, and two young children.

PATASKALA, Ohio The family of a 16-year-old girl who died after a shooting is making a plea to put an end to gun violence.
Amirah Truss, 16, died after a shooting on Summit Road on April 29 around 11 p.m.
Records from the Licking County Common Pleas Court indicate Shawn Jones Jr., 18, admitted to shooting Truss in the back of the head. Records show Jones took Truss to the hospital and threw the gun out of the car on the way.
Family members told 10TV at one point they were friends.
Pickerington man gets 13 years in prison for Pataskala area home invasion
NEWARK - A Pickerington man was sentenced to 13 years in prison for his role in a Pataskala area home invasion that turned into a police chase earlier this year.
Joseph T. Powell Jr., 32, of Pickerington, pleaded guilty to one count each aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; kidnapping, a first-degree felony; failure to comply with order or signal of police officer, a third-degree felony; and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, in Licking County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday.
According to Assistant Licking County Prosecutor Cliff Murphy, the Licking County Sheriff s Office was called to a home on Ford Avenue around 9:49 p.m. Feb. 23 for a reported home invasion. While the agency was en route, Murphy said dispatch advised the suspects had robbed the victims with firearms and bullet proof vests before fleeing in a white van.

PATASKALA, Ohio A 16-year-old girl has died after she was shot in the head on Thursday, according to Pataskala police.
Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4700 block of Summit Road on April 29 around 11 p.m.
When officers arrived, they learned the girl was driven to Mount Carmel East hospital by 18-year-old Shawn Jones Jr., of Columbus according to Licking County Common Pleas Court records.
Court records state Jones admitted to shooting the girl in the back of the head and throwing the gun out of the vehicle s window on the way to the hospital.
