Oceanside is proposing to loosen regulations on tattoo parlors as the body art becomes more popular and new shops have asked to open.
“Currently, the Municipal Code limits tattoo businesses to one per 50,000 residents, but this has not been enforced by the city due to concerns with First Amendment protections,” City Planner Jeff Hunt said by email Tuesday.
As a result, the planning staff has recommended the City Council delete the population limit and amend its zoning provisions to better accommodate the businesses. The city has four licensed tattoo shops.
In addition to the population limits, the city allows tattoo establishments only in certain types of commercial and industrial zones. The locations also must meet separation requirements from similar businesses, residential areas, churches and other activities.

Toronto activists designed and posted signs at Trinity Bellwoods to call out the city’s behaviour following the forced and often violent response to people protesting encampment evictions at that park, Alexandra Park and Lamport Stadium.
In a statement, TOparks: Housing Not Violence, an advocacy group made up of Toronto residents living near the encampments, too credit for placing the signs at Trinity Bellwoods.

City of Ottawa officials said a crackdown on grass clippings left in the streets is needed.
City officials said grass clippings in streets and public right-of-ways clog storm drains and cause localized flooding. They are also a hazard for motorcyclists and bicyclists and can cause wrecks.
As per Chapter 14 of the Municipal Code, the City will be issuing warnings to all property owners with grass clippings or yard debris blown into the street or other public right-of-way. After an initial warning, property owners continuing to discharge grass clippings and other yard debris into the street or public right-of-way will be ticketed.
