City of Henderson gets state road grant HENDERSON, Ky.  The state has awarded nearly $70,000 to the City of Henderson for repaving Wathen Lane. The funds  totalling $68,000  is being administered through the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid within the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Henderson was one of 32 cities and counties across the state who received a portion of the recent $5 million funding award to complete nearly 70 projects, according to a news release. Nearly 60 miles of roadway will be resurfaced, repaired or built with the funding, state officials said. The City of Henderson is delighted to have received this support for our continued efforts to rebuild the foundation for Wathen Lane, said Donna Stinnett, spokesperson for the City.

Most of this non-taxable property like private colleges and hospitals is located in cities like New Haven, Hartford, and Bridgeport.  Senate President Martin Looney wants the state to dedicate $114 million in state funds to increase payments to cities and towns for this non-taxable property.  The proposal has Republican support but that support is contingent on how the state decides to pay for it.  “Raising taxes is a very difficult conversation as you well know and certainly for any municipality the greater the property tax burden, no matter what the reason, makes that community less affordable,” Darien First Selectwoman Jayme Stevenson said.

Jamesburg council will submit grant application for road repairs to DOT Jamesburg council will submit grant application for road repairs to DOT JAMESBURG–The Borough Council approved a resolution authorizing the submission of a New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) grant application to fund Grand Street and McKnight Avenue road repairs. Borough Administrator Scott Frueh said currently the borough rotates paving projects and it was determined that these streets were in need of repair. The borough will apply to the DOT for Municipal Aid 2021 Grant Funds through the NJDOT Electronic SAGE Program, according to the council. Frueh said the estimated total cost for the road improvements is about $407,420, subject to DOT approval.
