Plan for student block on Headford Road faces appeal

Galway Bay FM 12 April 2021 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – A plan for a major high rise student accommodation development on the Headford road has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála. The proposed eight storey development adjacent to Galway Retail Park was approved by city planners in February and sets out to see the creation of 254 student beds, four retail units and a gym. The application is led by Cleverson Ltd and would include a mix of one and two bed studio apartments along with four, five, six and seven bed units across six floors. The plans would also see the demolition of an existing ESB unit enclosure and the creation of a 2,385 square metre development.

Over 400 people attend workshops on new Galway City Development plan

Galway Bay FM 16 March 2021 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over 400 people have attended a series of workshops on the new Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029. According to the Galway City Community Network, who ran the 14 seminars, attendees included members of the public, GCCN members and City Councillors. At the consultation events, GCCN says its members emphasised the need for the new City Development Plan to represent the interests of the diverse communities in the city and tackle key issues including climate change, biodiversity loss, housing, sustainable transport and economic inequality. The community network says the submission it made on the new development plan has called for it to embed sustainable development goals, public sector equality and human rights duty and the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

Galway Bay FM 23 February 2021 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway City Council has agreed to a variation of the City Development Plan to support specific projects outlined in the Galway Transport Strategy. The variation was adopted at last evening’s Local Authority meeting and will see the creation of a new junction at the intersection between College Road and Lough Atalia Road. The adopted variations to the city development plan 2017-2023 contain two parts. The first relates a minor realignment of the Cross City Link located between College Road and Lough Atalia Road to provide for a link through recreation and amenity zoned lands.
