New Braunfels has a new police chief after city council members unanimously confirmed the appointment of Keith Lane to the post during its Monday meeting.
The selection of Lane, who had been serving in an interim capacity since late last year, comes following a nationwide search by the city, assisted by the Keller-based executive recruitment firm of Strategic Government Resources.
A field of 62 candidates from 15 states â including 35 from Texas â was narrowed down to four finalists who visited New Braunfels this week for in-person interviews and tours of the community and meetings with officers and employees at the police department, according to City Manager Robert Camareno.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN â In less than two weeks time, community members will have finally answered the question of whether the high school will stay or go, but until then, tensions continue to run high.
The community seems bitterly divided over whether to approve the $85 million plan and relocate the South Kingstown High School to Curtis Corner, or reject it and head back to the drawing board at Columbia Street.Â
Many have already chosen their camps, but for those still on the fence in this debate, both sides make their arguments.Â
When Superintendent Linda Savastano first proposed the idea of relocating the high school to Curtis Corner a year and a half ago, the new site was meant to lend itself better to 21st Century learning spaces, and give the community more of a high school campus.

With Wichita FOP contract up for negotiation, some call for open discipline records Megan Stringer, The Wichita Eagle
Apr. 4 In August 2019, a Wichita police officer stopped a man for not signaling a turn into his driveway, according to a complaint the man filed. When he didn t get back inside his car as asked by police, he said the officers kicked and hit him and took him into custody.
Members of the Wichita Citizen s Review Board discussed this and other complaints about police in closed session meetings. Officer disciplinary records are confidential and not open to the public, as specified in the union contract between the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 and the City of Wichita.
Following a 90-minute discussion that included comments from numerous residents, New Braunfels City Council members on Monday elected to operate all city facilities at 100% occupancy but require the use of face coverings by the public when social distancing is not feasible.
The decision comes as Texas Gov. Greg Abbottâs executive order rescinding statewide face covering and occupancy requirements goes into effect.
Abbottâs order allows businesses and other establishments to decide whether to require their employees and customers to follow additional hygiene measures, including the wearing of a face covering. Cities fall under the category of âother establishments.â
Council members are expected to revisit the decision on face coverings and facility occupancy during a meeting scheduled for April 12.
