Valley News - Woodstock launching new parking meters and app

Woodstock launching new parking meters and app Modified: 1/27/2021 6:03:42 PM WOODSTOCK Starting on Monday, tourists and commuters will again have to pay $1 an hour to park in the heart of the village of Woodstock during the day. But now they’ll have more choices on how to do so. The village has replaced its notoriously unreliable parking meters with about 50 new parking meters that can cover two spaces and also has installed pay-to-park kiosks, rather than individual meters, around The Green and in the Mechanic Street lot. And Woodstock will also become part of a smart-phone system that allows motorists to pay through the ParkMobile app for a small transaction fee.

Hanover creates outside downtown holiday market

Hanover’s Town Manager Julia Griffin knew that the usual downtown holiday celebrations were not going to work this year. Hanover’s downtown is normally a destination during the holidays, with gingerbread-making workshops, live music, and other street celebrations. While that means more business for shops and restaurants, it’s a problem this year with the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, Griffin recently told the board of selectmen, she came up with a different type of holiday celebration. “My scheme was to turn downtown Hanover into a holiday lighting extravaganza with European market feel,” she said. Griffin wants to attract walkers, shoppers and diners to engage with the businesses downtown in as safe a way as they can.

Valley News - Pandemic complicates Hanover s redo of home assessments

Pandemic complicates Hanover’s redo of home assessments Modified: 12/18/2020 9:48:26 PM HANOVER The town is trying to reassure worried residents that no one needs to enter their homes to conduct a townwide property assessment during a worsening pandemic. Hanover is undertaking the state-mandated reassessment to replace the results of a much-criticized process from two years ago. Now, officials are getting out the word to residents that they do not have to allow town assessors who are going door to door inside their homes. Instead, homeowners can request that the interior inspection be conducted over FaceTime or Skype video call platforms, according to Hanover officials.
