Rec Board discusses Sidney Waterpark, summer plans By Sheryl Roadcap - sroadcap@aimmediamidwest.com SIDNEY The Sidney Recreation Board discussed the Sidney Waterpark and recreation plans for the 2021 summer season during its Monday afternoon teleconference meeting. At the top of the meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Duane Gaier gave board members an update about a water leak in the large, 30-year-old pool at the Sidney Waterpark. He displayed a diagram showing where the potential leak is in the large pool. City parks and underground utilities crews used the city jet truck and camera to pull the camera through the piping from the pump house to the “T” between the drain boxes in the bottom of the pool, Gaier said. The camera and footage review did not show a crack or a broken joint, but it did show the water level where the leak stops. He said city staff is currently waiting on a consultant to get back with them on what the next steps should be.

PJ residents to see decrease in sewer rates By Sheryl Roadcap - sroadcap@sidneydailynews.com SIDNEY An update on the sewer rates for Port Jefferson residents was presented during Sidney City Council’s Monday evening workshop session. Village residents will see a decrease in what they will be paying in 2021 compared to 2020. The overall rate, which includes treatment and management charges, is down 4.9% for 2021 at $4.29 per 100 cubic feet (Ccf) of sewage compared to the $4.50 Ccf rate charged in 2020. William Blakely, Sidney utilities director, said the city has been providing sewer services for the village residents since 1998 when the city manager was authorized to enter into an agreement. The necessity for the agreement arose when the Ohio EPA told the village to stop the sewage that was going into the Great Miami River from on-lot septic systems.

Council OKs church’s rezoning request By Sheryl Roadcap - sroadcap@aimmediamidwest.com SIDNEY The rezoning request of a 3.238 acre tract of land owned by the North Broadway Church of Christ on North Broadway Avenue, from an R-3, multi-family residence district, to a B-1, local business district, was approved by the Sidney City Council Monday evening. The rezoning ordinance was adopted by City Council during its hybrid method teleconference meeting. A public hearing was held during the meeting for the request of Brent Wright, on behalf of the North Broadway Church of Christ, for the rezoning of the property at 2655 N. Broadway Ave. The property is located on the west side of Broadway Avenue and north of Hoewisher Road. No members of the public spoke.
