Fire chief pushing state for Portsmouth COVID vaccine site

Fire chief pushing state for Portsmouth COVID vaccine site PORTSMOUTH Fire Chief Todd Germain said he is still working to try to get the state to open a COVID-19 vaccination site in the city. “I do know that the state is actively pursuing locations in several communities in our area. They have identified a site in our city and visited that site to see if it’s a viable option, but there hasn’t been any decision made at this point,” Germain told the City Council this week. He also tried to partner with the state on opening a site, but that has not yet been successful.

Portsmouth resident asks city to consider implementing solar energy

PORTSMOUTH Last August, Richards Avenue resident Tom Morgan, the town planner for Seabrook, was thrilled to see that for the first time in over 130 years, renewable sources generated more energy in the United States than coal. Portsmouth on the other hand, Morgan wrote in an August letter to city councilors, is “on the wrong side of history” relative to citywide renewable energy, despite its status as an eco-municipality. “Portsmouth’s homes and businesses are mostly powered by Granite Shore’s coal-fired Merrimack Station in Bow and Essential Power’s gas-fired plant in Newington,” he wrote. “Eversource’s recent $126 million investment in upgrades to the transmission corridor from Madbury to Portsmouth signals the industry’s intent to keep our community dependent on fossil fuels well into the future.”

Portsmouth Deputy City Manager Colbert Puff resigns effective March 5

PORTSMOUTH – Deputy City Manager Nancy Colbert Puff has submitted her resignation to City Manager Karen Conard and will leave her post on Friday, March 5. COVID-19 has inspired a lot of reflection, Colbert Puff said in an email to the Portsmouth Herald. It is time for me to take a break and assess how I want to focus my efforts moving forward. Public service has always been at the center of my interests, and I don’t expect that to change. I am excited to consider the possible avenues that lie ahead, she wrote. A note obtained by the Herald was sent by Conard to city staff on Thursday morning alerting them to Colbert Puff’s departure.
