Waltham remains in a red zone, designated as a high risk community, regarding the spread of the coronavirus. As of Jan. 21 the city had 4,018 positive cases, 3,382 recovered cases, and 104 deaths from the disease. There have been a total of 236 cases of COVID-19 in the Waltham Public School district since Oct. 9, 2020. But there is hope in sight: vaccines are coming.

Wilkes-Barre accepting applications for utility assistance

The City of Wilkes-Barre is ready to accept pre-applications for the Residents’ Emergency Utility Assistance Program, Mayor George Brown’s Office announced Thursday. The program is open to those who occupy a home (rented or owned) in the city limits, and are responsible for the utility bill, who have experienced a 30% or greater reduction in total household income, as well as to any residents who are on a fixed income and can demonstrate an increase in daily living expenses due to preparing for, preventing, or responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assistance provided may equal the average of up to six months of utility bills. The financial assistance will be provided from a one-time grant from the COVID-19 Community Development Block Grant, authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), and will be paid directly to the utility company identified on the application.

I also want to thank the impressive team of thought leaders in City Hall, on the Board of Alders, and in our neighborhoods who have helped steer this great city under the most arduous of circumstances.”
