Los Altan of the Year Kiyoshi Taylor: Fighting against racism at local level

Andrew Yee/Town Crier File Photo Kiyoshi Taylor speaks at a protest in Mountain View last year that drew a large crowd. The 2015 Los Altos High School grad is the son of a Stanford University philosophy professor who he said taught him to “question everything.” Modeled after Time Magazine’s annual honor, the Town Crier’s Los Altans of the Year, now in its 26th year, recognizes local residents who have spread goodwill through their good deeds, enhancing Los Altos’ reputation as a community. LASD prolongs pause on in-person classes, set to resume Jan 11

Los Altos School District students are scheduled to return to classrooms Jan. 11. The Los Altos School District has extended its pause on in-person classes until Jan. 11, from a previously planned return on Jan. 4. The district initially decided to put in-person instruction on hold last week, because of a high number of staff absences. Students were set to return after winter break on Jan. 4, but district administrators have decided to push that out by a week. “We are committed to in-person learning, as we have been from the very start, being one of the only public districts in the county open,” Superintendent Jeff Baier said at a Dec. 14 board of trustees meeting. “But … we need to be sure it is safe.”

The Post, an eatery at the corner of Main and First streets, was going to reopen on Thursday, according to its owner, Vickie Breslin. But that morning, downtown restaurant owners received a strongly worded email from the city’s economic development coordinator, Anthony Carnesecca.
