Despite Gov. Greg Gianforte s plan to roll back some statewide health directives, a mask order and other restrictions will remain in Lewis and Clark County until certain criteria set by
Lewis and Clark County is tightening its local public health directives as the upcoming change in governor leaves uncertainty about the statewide measures now in place.Â
Montana is currently under a statewide mask mandate and several other directives meant to slow the spread of COVID-19 statewide.
Republican Gov.-elect Greg Gianforte has yet to say whether he will continue any of the measures enacted by Gov. Steve Bullock, a Democrat. However, Gianforte, who takes office Jan. 4, has said he favors âpersonal responsibilityâ over mandates. We are unsure what those ongoing statewide directives and restrictions might be, so at this point it really comes back down to the local level and the responsibility of Lewis and Clark Public Health to continue to maintain the protections that we have had in our county up to this point, the county s Health Officer Drenda Niemann said during a City-County Board of Health meeting Thursday.
EAU CLAIRE â Members of a new task force on local communicable disease ordinances were announced Tuesday.
Nineteen people from a variety of backgrounds will constitute the task force, which is charged with reviewing current communicable disease ordinances and recommending potential changes to the Eau Claire City Council and County Board. The County Board approved the task force members during its meeting Tuesday night.
Eight people will also form a non-voting advisory group, which can provide information to the task force. The task force also will likely have a non-voting facilitator, but a person has not been named yet.
The task force is a cooperative effort between Eau Claire County, the city of Eau Claire and the City-County Board of Health. Its first meeting will likely occur in January.
