The squatter’s paradise, which vaguely feels like a free, year-round Burning Man, is in Imperial County on the eastern shore of the Salton Sea about 50 miles north of the border with Mexico. Locals call it “the last free place in America” where there are no rules, no government, no taxes.

Residents take up City Nature Challenge

Gallery GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Nature lovers had the opportunity to explore their surroundings over the weekend and document species of plants and animals via the iNaturalist phone application.  Participants in the 2021 Garden Route City Nature Challenge had four days, from 29 April till 3 May, to upload species with their smartphones. In George the Garden Route Botanical Garden offered free entrance to visitors who presented their smartphones with the iNaturalist App at the entrance. Those who used this opportunity did so with enthusiasm and took some great pictures of a variety of species.
