Beardsley Zoo Invites the Public to Its Party For The Planet Written by Lisa Clair
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo invites residents to join the Zoo in celebrating with a Party For The Planet, a number of virtual and live activities designed to mark the 51
st anniversary of Earth Day. Plans include interpretive talks via Zoom about some of the Zoo’s conservation initiatives, giveaways at the Zoo and an in-person, socially-distanced cleanup in Beardsley Park. Throughout the event, a display of artwork by Sonny Cardinali will be located in the Farmyard. Cardinali makes garden metalworks from discarded objects.

GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - This year s sixth annual City Nature Challenge is expanding to more than 400 cities across six continents.
Beginning on Friday 30 April at 12:01 in each time zone, the challenge runs till Monday 3 May at 23:59.
During this time, all interested people are called to observe and submit photos of wild plants, animals, and fungi using the free mobile app, iNaturalist.
As global human populations become increasingly concentrated in cities, it s more important than ever to document urban biodiversity and help ensure the future of plants and wildlife.
During the 2020 City Nature Challenge, participants in Miami spotted an amethyst hairstreak butterfly, a species nearly eradicated from the United States. In Panama, community scientists documented a vibrant and critically endangered harlequin frog. And in Washington DC, participants recorded Arlington County s first observation of a white-spotted slimy salamander in over 40 years

Join participants from over 350 cities around the world for the City Nature Challenge by sharing your observations of wild plants and animals in the Kane County area between April 30 and May 3.
