The Fairfield City Council met last night and swore in new members after last month’s election. Awards of Appreciation were given to outgoing aldermen Jim Griffith and Ralph Barbre, as well as former Interim Mayor and current alderman Gary Moore. City Street & Bridge Leadman Robert Kamp was presented with a Hero Award for intervening when three dogs attempted to attack children last month. Robert Kamp receiving his award from Mayor Mike Dreith and Maddox Richards The new council approved a TIF Redevelopment Agreement for repair of the south wall at Fairfield City Hall. TIF will pay 25 percent of the total project cost. Aldermen also approved a $7,000 expenditure for five City Band concerts this summer, contingent upon Director Josh Livesay being able to form the band.

The “Amazing” Worthington City Band, which had a shorter season and limited participation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will return at full strength with a summer concert series that starts with the traditional Memorial Day opener. One thing will be different, though the venue. Due to planned work throughout the summer in Chautauqua Park, the city band will perform in another one of Worthington’s well-loved sites along Lake Okabena Centennial Park.

(Ryan McGaughey/The Globe) WORTHINGTON Galen Benton has certainly kept himself active since his retirement, but he’s happy to be a little extra busier these days. After COVID-19 restrictions limited Benton’s opportunities to provide musical entertainment to folks throughout southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa during this past year, he’s now getting back to his old routine. This past Thursday afternoon (April 29), Benton was in a familiar spot at Ecumen Meadows, performing songs on his accordion from multiple eras and genres.
