Snow Emergency Declared In Pittsfield,Adams City of Pittsfield – snow emergency declared effective 7 a.m. Jan. 26 PITTSFIELD, Mass. weather.gov Please be advised that due to the impending winter storm, a snow emergency has been declared for the City of Pittsfield effective 7 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 26 through 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28. During this time, residents are asked to use off-street parking. If unable to park off-street, please follow the alternate side parking regulations: Between 7 a.m. on Tuesday and 7 a.m. on Wednesday: vehicles may be parked on the even side of the street; • Between 7 a.m. on Wednesday and 7 a.m. on Thursday: vehicles may be parked on the odd side of the street; and • All existing and signed parking regulations remain active.

It certainly was beautiful this year and you don’t want to see it go, but if you’ve had your Christmas tree up since long before Christmas, it s probably dried out and is a potential fire hazard. In fact, State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey is encouraging Massachusetts residents to get that tree up and out promptly. As part of a press release from the Department of Fire Services, Ostroskey said that if a fire should start for any reason, a tree (especially a dried-out tree) will help spread the fire extremely rapidly.

EPA Finalizes Landmark Cleanup Plan For Housatonic River The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a Revised Final Permit for the Rest of River cleanup plan of the Housatonic River. The Revised Final Permit, issued under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), spells out the required cleanup measures to be followed by General Electric Company (GE) to remove contamination caused by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The Revised Final RCRA Permit Modification (Revised Final Permit) updates EPA s 2016 cleanup plan for the river, its floodplains and other surrounding areas. EPA s remedy as outlined in the Revised Final Permit is protective of human health and the environment and will result in more contaminated sediment removed from the river and surrounding areas than EPA s previous 2016 decision.
