Greg Gianforte’s office Tuesday morning requesting an environmental impact study be conducted for the proposed Madison Food Park slaughterhouse. “What you ve got here is a situation that is quite wide ranging in scope and far reaching in impact, and it s really what the MEPA, it s called Montana Environmental Protection Act, was created for,” Moe said. “A complex situation that could have lots of impact on our roads, our water, our school, our healthcare system, and so it really requires that kind of broad based view.”

MDT proposes some road improvements in NW Great Falls MTN and last updated 2021-05-11 12:00:17-04 GREAT FALLS — The Montana Department of Transportation has released a proposal to reconstruct 9th Street NW from Central Avenue to Northwest Bypass, and to reconstruct Watson Coulee Road from Vaughn Road to Northwest Bypass. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve the deteriorating pavement, upgrade the existing storm drain system, and provide ADA compliant sidewalk and curb ramps. The project is a joint effort between the City of Great Falls and MDT, nominated through the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) process. MDT said in a news release the project is currently in the preliminary design phase and affected residents can expect contact from MDT staff and members of the project team during this phase.

Do not leap before you look!” That is the message the group, Protect the Falls, has for Montana leaders. On May 11th, 2021, they delivered a petition to the Capitol asking the state to use the 1971 Montana Environmental Policy Act to study the potential impact of the proposed Madison Food Park. The industrial-scale food processing facility, which includes animal processing, would be located in Cascade County about eight miles outside Great Falls. “It is our intent to deliver to the Governor a petition, which in part, are the City of Great Falls actions in requesting an Environmental Impact Study,” says Eric Ray, a member of Protect the Falls.

Great Falls City Commissioners moved unanimously to set a public hearing for May 18 for discussion surrounding the conditional use permit for the Aim High Big Sky recreation center proposed to be built in Lions Park.  Commissioners also adopted a resolution of intention, subsequent to a public hearing, to vacate the following streets around Lions Park:  28th Street South between 8th Avenue South and 10th Avenue South
