Candidate filing period starts for Georgetown special election

The filing period opened on Wednesday, July 28 and ends on Monday, August 16.
City Council passed a resolution at its regular meeting Tuesday to call for a special election on Nov. 2 to fill the District 6 vacancy on the council created when Rachael Jonrowe resigned on July 6, citing personal reasons.
Completed applications for candidacy should be submitted at City Hall at 808 Martin Luther King Jr. St.
Georgetown City Council members serve three-year terms representing one of seven single-member districts. A candidate for City Council must be at least 18 years of age on the first day of the term of office and a citizen and qualified voter of the state of Texas and the City of Georgetown.
July 4th fireworks show to be held in San Gabriel Park

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The City of Georgetown says that the Georgetown Sertoma Club s 38th annual Family July 4 Celebration will look different this year.
The club will have a free fireworks display at dusk Sunday, July 4 in San Gabriel Park, but the parade and other usually-included festivities have been canceled due to COVID-19. Several months ago, a joint decision was made by the City of Georgetown and the Georgetown Sertoma Club not to hold this year s festivities in San Gabriel Park due to COVID, Club President Lauri Tulloch said. Since then, we have seen improved conditions. It’s much too late for the necessary planning of events, but we are thrilled to be able to provide the fireworks show.
Georgetown assistant city manager accepts new position in Cibolo

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Assistant City Manager Wayne Reed of Georgetown has accepted the position as the City Manager for the City of Cibolo. His last day with the City of Georgetown will be June 25.
Cibolo City Council approved his hire at its meeting on June 8 and his first day in Cibolo will be July 12. It has been a privilege to be a part of the Georgetown team these past five and a half years, says Reed. I have been provided opportunities by David Morgan to lead diverse service areas and oversee initiatives to improve the culture and performance of the organization.
After the Williamson County Historical Commission placed bricks honoring the Confederacy around the Williamson County courthouse, the city of Georgetown cancels program.
