Amazon in NY: Company, Town of Bath plan Steuben location

From Buffalo to the Hudson Valley and Staten Island, and now potentially Bath, Amazon has been rapidly acquiring or building warehouse space around New York. Amazon officials say the company currently provides 34,000 full and part-time jobs across the state, starting at $15 an hour and up. The location would put the facility near the intersection of three major interstates, I-86, I-390 west of Bath, leading to the New York Thruway near Rochester, and I-99 south into Pennsylvania in Painted Post. The planning board minutes state that an Andrew Hart submitted a site plan with maps of location improvements for the proposed Amazon facility. The minutes state that Hart, along with other representatives working on the project, reviewed the plans and maps including storm water mitigation, site lighting, landscaping and traffic study information. The representatives said the only utility upgrade needed at the site may be the natural gas connection, according to the minutes.

The legislature also OK’d the sale of the two smaller pieces of land, the 5.6 acre parcel for $4,000 and the 6.5 acre parcel for $6,000.

Active cases have fallen to 256, down from 314 on Friday Staff reports BATH  The Steuben County Public Health Department is still waiting for its COVID-19 vaccine supply to catch up with the number of residents eligible to receive vaccinations, Public Health Director Darlene Smith said Monday.  Smith said Steuben County continues to advocate for a greater supply of vaccine.  “With the addition of those with comorbidities being added to the list of those eligible for the vaccine starting next Monday, the majority of Steuben County’s population will be eligible,” said Smith. “Unfortunately, the vaccine supply provided to the health department on a weekly basis can only reach .2% of the population. Based on current allocations from New York State, it will take months to vaccinate those who are currently eligible.

$33M bridge rehabilitation project in WNY and Southern Tier complete

Cuomo announced that the state s nearly $33 million in bridge projects in Western New York and the Southern Tier are now complete. In total, 15 bridges were replaced or fixed in  Allegany, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Erie, Schuyler and Steuben counties. The state says the new bridges meet modern hydraulic standards, which should help them be less prone to flooding. In a press release, local elected officials commented on the benefits of the infrastructure upgrades for the region, including Assemblymen Andy Goodell, Joseph Giglio and Pat Burke, as well as Senators George Borrello and Sean Ryan.
