Today s Local Talk featured Dennis Hart news and Merry Rankin Sustainability Coordinator with City of Ames and Iowa State University. Merry discussed sustainability concerning the Smart Business Challenge. Merry invited Robin Boskim to provide background from the Iowa Economic Development stand point. Also Edgar Guillen, ISU student intern, provided his work in facilitating the Smart Business Challenge with KHOI Community Radio. It was concluded that any efforts to diminish our carbon footprint as it were, is worth every penny in a Smart Business Challenge. Anna Banana provided a delightful Carol Pluckrose selection of poetry.

Thankful for Ames well-maintained trails
Thank you, City of Ames and Ames Parks and Recreation, for the consistent and timely attention you have given to maintaining the Carr Woods cross country ski trail system throughout this snowy winter. From the plowed parking area to the groomed skate lane and classic tracks, we have appreciated the coordinated effort to keep this little gem accessible and in great condition. We are avid cross country skiers and frequent users of the Carr Woods trails for a quick workout and an opportunity to enjoy nature. During our many outings it was common to see deer, bald eagles, and occasionally we’d hear the call of a barred owl. I know we speak for many other winter enthusiasts, that having this well-maintained trail system right in town, has been very important to our well-being.
