FAIRMONT– The Fairmont City Council discussed the direction of the new Community Center at their work session on Monday night. This has been a five-year project that has seen different steps taken along the timeline.
There was a presentation that consisted of key dates for the Community Center project. In June of 2016, a feasibility study was done to create the process of constructing a new Community Center. In November of 2016, there was a question on the ballot that stated, shall the City of Fairmont be authorized to impose a local option sales tax of one-half of one percent (1/2%) for 25 years or until $15,000,000 in revenues have been generated for the purpose of funding recreational amenities, trails, and/or a Fairmont Community Center? The vote was approved.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) - Rocco Fucillo believes Marion County is a great place to live, not only for the quality of life and recreational opportunities it offers, but for its location in the U.S. as well.
Residents of West Virginia can explore rural and urban areas that offer natural landscapes and experience each of the four seasons, but people can get to major cities such as Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. in a few hours drive, and also fly out of several airports to other cities across the country.

FAIRMONT â At 1,275 feet long and 56 feet wide the Jefferson Street Bridge in Fairmont, also known as the Million Dollar Bridge had lost its illumination. Attributed to water damage to the conduit, getting the lights underneath and on the sides of its span repaired seemingly kept leading city officials to dead ends.
Fairmont City Manager Valerie Means was determined to have the bridgeâs lights shining once again. A letter that Council Member Tom Mainella wrote to West Virginia Secretary of Transportation Byrd White received a positive response last May.
