CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -A new eight story office building in Charlottesville is celebrating a construction milestone.
The final beam was placed on Apex Plaza during ceremony Wednesday, May 19. The building is the first large-scale mass timber project in Virginia, and one of only a handful in the United States .
âThe new technology to the United States of bringing cross laminated timber- CLT, as its known - and bringing a project of this size and magnitude to Charlottesville. It is a big day,â Hourigan Group CEO Mark Hourigan said.

UVA Health will host a series of pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Downtown Charlottesville.
The Dose-on-the-Go clinic will open at the Sprint Pavilion on the Downtown Mall from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, May 14. The vaccinations are free, and no appointments are necessary.
The shots are open to anyone 16 and older. Those who are younger than 18 will need to have a parent or guardian with them to get the shot.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Itâs been more than a year since kids were inside the Virginia Discovery Museum, but now everyone is able to experience the exhibits in-person again.
For now, the museum on Charlottesvilleâs Downtown Mall is open by reservations-only. Groups of 25 people or fewer can book a timeslot online to come and enjoy all that the fun space has to offer.
âWe are absolutely thrilled to have families back in the museum. Weâve missed them so much for the 13 months that weâve been closed, and the museum just hasnât been the same without the laughter and the learning that takes place here everyday,â Museum Director Janine Dozier said.
