Disney s California theme parks had been silent 412 days, but the magic is finally back.
Friday Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park reopened at 8 a.m. local time with the first guests cheering, clapping and waving as they came through the gates. The Anaheim parks are only open to California residents at limited capacity for now.
Disney cast members lined Main Street USA and returned the applause and cheers. “Welcome back, everyone,” they said in greeting.
Kate Fail of Los Angeles couldn’t hold back the tears, she was so happy to be back in Disneyland.
“Spending time with friends and just riding rides again” is what she most was looking forward to as she entered the park. First stop for Fail: Space Mountain.

This is a monumental day for Anaheim, said Mayor Harry Sidhu. We have all missed the joy of Disneyland, and we are so glad to have it back. But this means so much more to working families, small businesses, and our city. The impact of having the theme park closed for 13 months has been devastating. This begins our economic recovery and brings hope back to Anaheim.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek gave a speech to the theme park staff before the gates opened to the public. Chairman Bob Iger was also in attendance. Wow. What a day, Chapek said to employees before the park opened. We have waited so long for this. You can just feel the energy and excitement all around us.
