ANGOLA â Sheâs a survivor, and sheâs here to tell her story.
Friday, at a luncheon for women put on as part of Womenâs Week by the Downtown Angola Coalition, Michelle Corrao shared her life story about being violently assaulted, shoved in the trunk of her car and her heroic rescue by a Fort Wayne Police Department detective.
She prefaced the talk by warning the crowd that yes, her story is awful and it could be triggering to some and that she would not be offended if anyone had to get up and leave because of it.
The assault
ANGOLA — As part of the celebration of the unveiling of the statue of abolitionist and suffragette Sojourner Truth at the Steuben County Courthouse, the Downtown Angola Coalition is sponsoring
ANGOLA â Angolaâs Historic Preservation Commission has finalized plans for its spring historic architecture tour.
The Commission is calling this yearâs excursion the Women, Business and Architecture Tour. It will take place Friday, May 7, which is also the start of Trine Universityâs spring graduation weekend.
It also culminates the end of the Womenâs Week celebration that being promoted by the Downtown Angola Coalition, the cityâs Mainstreet organization.
The tour will begin in front of the Steuben County Courthouse at 7 p.m. that Friday and last approximately 45 minutes, ending at Caleo Cafe, 113 W. Maumee St., which will be staying open late to allow tourgoers a chance to enjoy refreshments and mingle with HPC board members.
ANGOLA â The Downtown Angola Coalition and the Steuben County Farmers Market have entered into a partnership that puts the Market under the nonprofit umbrella of the Coalition.
The agreement, signed earlier this month by officers of both organizations, was approved by the Downtown Coalition at its board meeting on Wednesday.
The partnership allows the Farmers Market to operate under the Coalitionâs nonprofit corporation status and will provide the group liability insurance. The Coalition acts as the fiscal agent for the Market in certain matters. The Coalition will get to promote the Market as one more of the downtownâs offerings.
Tax bills will be going out in the mail today.
On Monday, Steuben County Treasurer Missy Bixler said an additional bank will now be accepting tax payments at its Angola location, that of Farmers & Merchants State Bank.
This bank joins three others in Steuben County that also accept tax payments, First Federal Savings Bank of Angola, Farmers State Bank and STAR Financial.
Property taxes are due on May 10.
