Dec 16, 2020 Photo: Getty Images A 24-year-old Schoharie County man has been charged with allegedly detaining and delaying United States mail from January through July of last year. It happened when he worked as an employee of the United States Postal Service. The felony charge against Tanner Brown of Sharon Springs, carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The mail that was allegedly detained by Brown was intended to be delivered in Onondaga County between January 2nd and July 24th 2019.

Sharon Springs man charged with felony for allegedly detaining mail | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS A Schoharie County man has been charged with a felony for allegedly detaining and delaying the United States mail from January through July of 2019. Tanner Brown, 24, of Sharon Springs, was arraigned Monday in federal court in Syracuse, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The indictment alleges that Brown, while working as an employee of the United States Postal Service, detained and delayed the mail. The mail allegedly delayed by Brown was intended for delivery in Onondaga County between January 1 and July 24, 2019. The charge against Brown carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to three years.

Syracuse-area mail carrier charged with federal crime for not delivering mail Updated Dec 14, 2020; Syracuse, NY An Onondaga County mail carrier was indicted on a felony in federal court, accused of failing to deliver the mail. Tanner Brown, 24, now of Sharon Springs, Schoharie County, “secreted, detained and delayed” mail in Onondaga County from Jan. 1 to July 24, 2019, according to the federal indictment. It’s unclear from the indictment what federal agents believe Brown’s motive might have been. But mail carriers occasionally face charges from their federal employers for pocketing mail for a variety of reasons. Prosecutors first attempted to contact Brown about the charges in late November. However, a copy of the indictment, sent to him through the mail, came back as “return to sender.”
