Kent weather: Growing fears of flooding around Canterbury

River watchers are becoming increasingly fearful that homes and roads in east Kent could be flooded.
The Environment Agency is continuing to issue flood alerts for the Stour and the Nailbourne Valley near Canterbury after several days of rain and high tides.

With a further spring tide today and more heavy rain forecast tomorrow, at particular risk is Plucks Gutter and Grove Ferry near Canterbury.

Flood warnings and alerts have been issued this afternoon as rain continued across the county.
Two flood warnings - where flooding is expected and immediate action is required - and 18 alerts - where flooding is possible - are in place for various parts of Kent.

A warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for The River Stour at Grove Ferry and Plucks Gutter, near Sarre.
A statement said: Following several days of sustained rainfall the peak river level is making its way down through the tidal Stour. The high tide tonight will coincide with this fluvial peak between 1am and 2am. We believe there is a possibility of flooding to affect some properties around Grove Ferry and Plucks Gutter.

Council bosses attempting to attract tenants for a £115 million leisure complex in the city say they hope to secure eateries where âpeople need cutleryâ.
Restaurants, cafes and shops are being sought to take spots at the The Riverside in Kingsmead, which will include a five-screen cinema run by Curzon.
