As workers begin taking down the former St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, city councillors are set to approve zoning changes allowing the seniors’ apartment complex that will replace it.
Council’s planning and operations committee this week recommended the full council approve official plan and zoning bylaw amendments paving the way for the project.

Also this week, demolition equipment moved onto the downtown site and workers began a take-down process that could last weeks.
“The good news is the project is certainly heading towards a start date,” Mayor Jason Baker told Tuesday’s planning committee meeting.

What’s unfolding in a New Jersey court might confound even the late-night radio legend and king of conspiracies Art Bell.
In one corner is David Rubini, a fast-talking on-air talent with a Texas twang, who styles himself a former protégé of Bell’s and his disciple on the radio mic.
Rubini’s nemesis, Michael Marshalek of Hoboken, is a conspiracy-radio fan turned anti-face-mask crusader. Of late, he faces charges for allegedly holding his 5-year-old son captive during a police standoff over COVID restrictions.
At stake is a piece of Bell’s legacy: a collection of the Radio Hall of Famer s final shows before he died in 2018. Rubini claims that Marshalek invested in his online radio venture and then stole Bell s archives. He aims to get them back.

It’s difficult for Jean David Michel, co-owner of Megabrain Comics in Rhinebeck, to remember a time before he became enthralled with comic books. He still can vividly recall, however, the first time he was gifted his very own.
There s a saying that central New York has two seasons: snow and construction.

A BLACK door, filthy from decades of roadsplash grime, opens directly from the street. On one side of it is a pizza shop; on the other a couple of kebab takeaways, and the downcomer beside it has rusted away at headheight so that when it rains, the water must splurge out onto the pavement. The fanlight above the door is so encrusted with dirt that no light filters into the narrow dark passage behind. The passage leads straight to another doorway which opens to reveal complete blackness. I pull out my phone and turn on the flashlight only to discover that I’m wrapped up in a straggly curtain of thick spiders’ webs. Behind the curtain is gloryhole of junk in an understairs cupboard.
