American Legion Post 560 in Garden Oaks is accepting donated items to be included in care packages sent to first responders in the Miami, Florida area as they continue to sift through the rubble of the condominium complex that collapsed last month.
According to a Friday report by CNN, at least 79 people died in the June 24 collapse of Champlain Towers South in the Miami suburb of Surfside. More than 60 people were unaccounted for as of Friday, according to the report.
LaShondra Jones, the legislative chairperson for the local Legion post, is organizing the care-package distribution. Residents who wish to donate are asked to drop off items from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13 at the Legion post, 3720 Alba Rd.
