The midlife upgrades of SA Navy (SAN) prime mission equipment â its frigates and submarines â are at concept and feasibility study phases with further progress on hold according to Armscor.
In its latest annual report, the State-owned defence and security acquisition agency has it the project to upgrade the four Valour Class frigates âis in the concept phase that commenced in February 2016â. No dates are given as regards upgrades for the three Heroine Class Type 209 submarines for which feasibility studies are complete with a recommended approach defined. This has been approved by SAN.

These self-propelling devices could find uses in all sorts of areas, ranging from toys, to robotics and mechanical systems for the US Army.
This new material is the handiwork of scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, whose research was funded by the US Army with the intention of recreating the mechanisms of fast-moving organisms in engineered systems. This refers to plants and animals that feature spring-like body parts that enable ultra-fast movements. We ve seen this form of biomimicry make it into robotic grippers inspired by the Venus flytrap, for example, though these typically rely on external power sources to trigger their movement.

The FBI has intelligence that pro-Donald Trump supporters are planning armed protests in 50 state capitols around the time of Joe Biden’s inauguration, according to reports.
The agency received information about an “identified armed group intending to travel to Washington DC on 16 January”, according to a briefing obtained by ABC News.
Warning of a potential “uprising” if the president was removed from office prematurely, the FBI said groups were calling for the “storming” of state, local, and federal government courthouses and administrative buildings if Congress attempts to enact the 25th Amendment prior to Inauguration Day.
