Mika Jukkara is the new Ski Jumping equipment controller

The International Ski Federation FIS has appointed the successor of Ski Jumping equipment controller Sepp Gratzer. FIS Race Director Sandro Pertile announced today, that Finn Mika Jukkara will take over the important position of equipment controller for men s Ski Jumping.
With 57-year-old Finn Mika Jukkara, an experienced and, within the Ski Jumping community, a well-known and esteemed man will be the successor of Sepp Gratzer. We want to introduce the Finn:

In his youth, Jukkara was a ski jumper himself and participated in domestic competitions in his home country of Finland.

LOOKING back on his subsequent progress up the Irish, and indeed world, athletics ladder, it is hard to believe that John Cronin was not elected in his first attempt to get involved at committee level in the Tullamore Harriers. The Tullamore resident will be elected unopposed as president of Athletics Ireland at Congress on Saturday and he hopes serve the permitted two terms of two years each.
A fine 800 metre runner in his youth, Cronin took up running in his native Donegal, winning the national U-16 800 metre title in 1976. He continued his athletics career in UCG in the late 1970s and competed in Tullamore in the Quinlan Cup while a member there.

AIBA President Umar Kremlev held a meeting with referees and judges who have served at the Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce, Poland.
President Kremlev emphasised AIBA’s commitment to ensuring judging in boxing should be fair and transparent.
‘No one or nothing should influence your work. The best boxers should win. Thank you for your good work at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Work further with all your heart, be in our team. Together we will make our sport great. Boxing is the world’s greatest sport, let’s develop it together. AIBA should not have any outside influence. We are an independent organisation and we have an independent Board of Directors, Committees, Referee & Judges Committee,’ President Kremlev said during the meeting.

Tullamore Harriers stalwart to take over at helm of Irish athletics

LONG time Tullamore resident John Cronin will take over the most powerful position in Irish athletics when he is elected as president of Athletics Ireland next Saturday.
Cronin will be elected unopposed, replacing Georgina Drumm who had been elected as president an annual Congress in the Tullamore Court Hotel in 2016. The Louth woman beat Ray Flynn on the same day that John Cronin was elected as chair of competition and deputy president.
A native of Donegal, Cronin moved to Tullamore in 1983 to take up employment with the former Burlington Industries. A talented mid distance runner in his youth and the national U-16 800m champion in 1976, he has given a life time of service to athletics, serving in a variety of roles from local to international level.
