Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez has urged Filipinos to patronize local establishments and products for their events and gatherings this Christmas season to support micro, small and medium enterprises and prop up the overall recovery of the domestic economy.
Lopez aired this appeal during the Laging Handa Press Briefing in Malacanang where he also equally stressed the need to strictly observe the health and safety protocols when dining out and going to malls this Christmas season.

“If you are holding get-together of 5 or 6 persons, hold it in a restaurant to support our entrepreneurs recover, but follow the health and safety protocols,” he urged.

The government has revised the rules of procedures for intellectual property rights (IPR) cases to further speed up resolution of disputes and sustain the country’s robust innovative economy.
The adoption of the 2020 Revised Rules of IPR Cases was a collaborative effort among private sector stakeholders and various government agencies led by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the Supreme Court, and the Department of Trade and Industry, among others.
IPOPHL Director-General Rowel Barba cited the importance of the 2020 Revised IPR Rules in ensuring an effective and speedy adjudication of IP rights cases stressing the IPR is an essential pillar in creating an environment that fosters innovation, promotes investments and entrepreneurship.

The automation level among manufacturing firms in the country has remained low, but the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said that various initiatives are in place to help local firms catch up.
Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez divulged a study at the Manufacturing Summit 2020 which showed that technology utilization of manufacturing enterprises in the country in 2019 remained low.

According to the DTI study, most are still making the transition from Industry 2.0 to 3.0.
Among the study’s key findings were: 44% had no maintenance system; 35% collect and manage data through paper documents; 46% have no established cybersecurity; and more than 50% had no manufacturing equipment connected to a network.

The Board of Investments (BOI) expects to sustain its P1 trillion investment generation level next year and growth in exports albeit at a slower pace.
Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez, who is also chair of the BOI, said that despite the challenges of the pandemic, the government’s premier investment generating and promotion agency is still seeing significant inflows.

“Investment approvals have already reached US$15B so far this year and we expect more than a P1 trillion or over $20 billion by 2021 with potentially over 34,000 jobs generated,” he said at the Manufacturing Summit.
