The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has amended existing guidelines to include all pre-painted galvanized steel coils and sheets for roofing to ensure safety and quality standards in the country.
Through the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) issued Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 21-13, series of 2021, the DTI tightens the guidelines for the implementation of Department Administrative Order (DAO) 20-10, series of 2020 or the technical regulation for hot-dip metallic-coated and pre-painted galvanized steel coils and sheets for roofing and general applications. The said MC took effect on 18 April 2021 immediately after its publication.

This was emphasized by Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez at the virtual launch of the AI Roadmap, which seeks to ensure the Philippines can unlock opportunities in AI for local businesses.
“The N-CAIR will serve as the country’s shared hub for AI research that will be instrumental in making the Philippines an AI powerhouse,” said Lopez as he assured that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are part of this initiative.
Serving as home to full-time research scientists and research engineers, Lopez said the N-CAIR will be responsible for advancing scientific discoveries in AI and play a pivotal role in nurturing and developing AI talent and data science leaders. Furthermore, the consultancy services offered by the Center will benefit government agencies, industries, and other research centers in the country.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has strongly batted for the lifting of locational investment restrictions, including business process outsourcing (BPO) operations in Metro Manila, to create more jobs, especially in the country’s capital.
Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez said during the TGER-NERS Job Summit on Labor Day, May 1, that DTI and the Board of Investments (BOI) support the recommendations of the business sector to the review of the Investment Priorities Plan (IPP) and to remove the geographical qualifications in availing subsidies, incentives, and programs, among others.

Indoor dine-in restaurants and personal services are allowed to reopen at limited capacities in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting today, May 1.
Memorandum Circular No. 21-15 series of 2021 on Additional Business Establishments, Persons or Activities Allowed to Operate in areas placed under MECQ provides that indoor dine-in services of food preparation establishments, such as commissaries, restaurants, and eateries, can now operate at an initial venue or seating capacity of 10 percent.

The MC issued Friday night by Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez also allows beauty salons, beauty parlors, barbershops, and nail spas, at an initial venue or seating capacity of 30 percent, provided that they shall only provide services that can accommodate the wearing of face masks at all times by the patrons/clients and service providers.
