PETALING JAYA: The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) has appealed to all foreign and local companies to help reduce Covid-19 infections and break the chain of infections in order to continue keeping the economy open for business, says the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Eurocham).
Eurocham, in a letter to its members on Sunday (Jan 24), said that its CEO Sven Schneider attended a meeting with Miti, represented by its secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, on the evening of Jan 22 to discuss Covid-19 infections involving workers in the manufacturing sector.
The statement noted that the preliminary outcome of the meeting involved the sector needing to take action to minimise community movement and social activities, such as companies being required to assign at least one human resources personnel to manage and coordinate foreign workers staying in dormitories.

KOTA TINGGI, Jan 17 The state of Emergency previously imposed in the Gerik parliamentary constituency in Perak and Bugaya state constituency in Sabah has proven that such a measure will not weaken investors’ confidence to invest in Malaysia, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The International Trade and Industry Minister said instead, foreign investors would view it as the government’s determination and seriousness in containing the Covid-19 pandemic.
Miti approves RM100,000 funds to upgrade drainage in Pengerang

International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) has approved a RM100,000 allocation to upgrade the drainage systems in Pengerang and Pantai Timur in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
Its minister Azmin Ali said the allocation was urgent as the drainage systems had not been maintained over a long period and it was among factors contributing to the floods in the area earlier this month.
