Riding conditions were not optimal in Portimao today, but Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales worked diligently in today s FP sessions. They completed the first day of the Grande Prémio de Portugal weekend in second and seventh place respectively in the combined FP standings.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales enjoyed their first two outings around the Autódromo Internacional Algarve. Despite damp and windy conditions throughout the Friday, the pair got in plenty of laps to prepare for Sunday’s Grande Prémio de Portugal. They took second and seventh place respectively in the combined FP standings.

We suffer especially in acceleration, because I don t have a lot of rear grip. We try to use the bike with the setting that we ve tried in these two days, but now over the next two days [before the final test] we ll check the data and try to be ready and more competitive for the next test.
Perhaps most concerning was Rossi s impression of the new Factory-spec chassis, aimed at moving the inconsistent 2020 bike towards the agile turning character of the 2019 model, as used to great success by Rossi s A-Spec team-mate Franco Morbidelli. Today we continued to use both chassis, but my impression at the end of the two days is that [the new chassis] is very similar to last year s [Factory] bike, Rossi said. It s not very similar to the 19 chassis. It s something between [the 2019 and 2020]. But when I ride, I feel very, very similar to the 2020.
I think it s a nice step for Vale to come into a different atmosphere, he said. Not that the Factory team gives him a lot of pressure because Vale likes that attention as well. He s mature enough and his backpack is big enough to control that. But, also to see a different atmosphere with our team. The way we are working is a bit different than the Factory team because there s less pressure, also there are less Japanese people involved so there are less people that decide what the setting of the bike is. I think this only helps in our team that only one guy is finally responsible for that.
