Not all Seattle infrastructure projects pan out according to plan, and many times, Seattleites have only themselves to blame or thank for that.
For example, on this day in 1970, King County voters rejected a bond package known as the Forward Thrust which would have built a regional rail transit system heavily subsidized by the federal government. Instead, the federal money was passed to Atlanta s MARTA system, according to History Link.
Let’s begin with saloons. Aqua Vitae by Glen A. Mofford (2016, TouchWood Editions) describes the numerous saloons that once graced Victoria primarily downtown between 1851 and 1917. Not all drinking establishments were raunchy, but some, such as the Pony Saloon on Government Street, were more flagrant and rowdy than others. Assault and robbery were common in the back alleys, and at one point, someone died and the “body was disposed of in a most undignified manner,” along with its decimated skull, under the floorboards. It remains a cold case to this day, but may have had something to do with a red-haired lady.

LANSING, MICH. When it comes to camping, not everyone wants to rough it.
So in an effort to make the outdoors more available to all comfort levels and abilities, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has been expanding, diversifying and updating its overnight lodging options in many state parks and recreation areas.
Over the course of the past year, the DNR has added fresh options like safari tents, cottage cabins, and even geodesic domes to its overnight lodging menu, while “reimagining” existing cabins through updates and renovations.
