School choice offers parents more options

As Ohioans celebrate School Choice Week (Jan. 24 to 30), families can consider the three basic educational avenues available to promote academic success public school, private school, and home education. Many K-12 options exist from which parents and caregivers can make informed decisions for their children.

2nd-alarm fire damages home

UNION CITY, Ohio A family home suffered moderate damage Saturday afternoon following a fire that started in an outdoor garbage bin.
At approximately 2:12 p.m., firefighters from Union City, Ohio Fire and Rescue responded along with mutual aid from Union City, Indiana, Ansonia and Liberty Township Fire Departments to 470 Beamsville Union City Road in reference to a working garage fire.
According to Captain Dusty Brunner, of the Union City, Ohio Fire Department, firefighters arrived on the scene to find a single-story brick ranch with smoke and flames showing from an exterior addition to the garage. The fire, which is believed to have started in an outdoor garbage bin, quickly spread to and throughout an exterior addition of the garage. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control preventing it from spreading to the interior portions of the structure and living space of the home.
Inland Wetlands Commission continues hearing on plan

NAUGATUCK A proposal to build a commercial building on an undeveloped parcel of land on Prospect Street is before the Inland Wetlands Commission.
The applicants, Magdi Bebawi and Onsi Tawadros of Waterbury, are proposing to build a 10,000-square-foot, one story building with a parking lot on a 13.95-acre property on Prospect Street between Maple Hill Road and Union City Road. The property’s address is listed as 0 Prospect St.

BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – National Weather Service forecasters say it will be an icy start to 2021.
Branch County is included in a Winter Weather Advisory which will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Forecasters say mixed precipitation is expected in portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio with total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.
If you must travel on the holiday, plan on slippery road conditions. With the possibility of ice accumulations, you should prepare for any possible power outages.
