For children, it’s not just about getting enough sleep
Adequate sleep is key to good health, well-being and proper functioning across all life stages but is especially critical for children. Poor sleep can inhibit rapid growth and development in early childhood.

And it’s not just about sleep duration; the time one goes to bed also plays an important role in the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of children.
A consistent early bedtime is especially important for young children transitioning from biphasic sleep (where children still nap during the day) to monophasic sleep (where sleep happens at night).

The Tasmanian Government’s focus continues to be on protecting the health and safety of Tasmanians and with our vaccination program in full swing, Tasmania is in a good place.
Today marks the conclusion of the second week of our state-based vaccination program with 2327 Tasmanians vaccinated over the first two weeks, including frontline health workers, paramedics, quarantine and border staff including police officers.
The next delivery of the Pfizer vaccine – approximately 1170 doses – will arrive on Sunday and we will continue the vaccination program of priority groups at the RHH from Tuesday.
Pleasingly, the vaccination program continues to run on schedule and will start at the Launceston General Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie on 15 March, as planned.

Grants open for Indigenous Contemporary Music Program
Applications are now open for grants under the Indigenous Contemporary Music Program, aimed at increasing development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and bands.
Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the $500,000 open competitive grant round will establish support mechanisms for Indigenous music artists.
“The Morrison Government is committed to investing in the Indigenous contemporary music sector so that it is developed and strengthened for current and future generations,” Minister Fletcher said.
“I encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to apply for these grants, which aim to provide opportunities and skills for ongoing economic and employment pathways in the music industry, including training and professional partnerships.”

First adult mental health centre opens in Adelaide
Thousands of South Australians needing urgent mental health assistance will now be able to access cutting edge out-of-hospital care, with the doors opened this week at a nation-first mental health centre that is an alternative to a hospital Emergency Department.
The $14m Urgent Mental Health Care Centre (UMHCC) in Adelaide is the first of eight to be opened under a $114.5 million trial funded by the Australian Government.
Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, said the Adelaide Urgent Mental Health Care Centre (UMHCC) would give adults access to a range of mental health support services during extended operating hours, from midday to midnight.
