Cancer Education Course for Aboriginal health professionals

Courtesy of Cancer Council WA Cancer is a serious health issue for Aboriginal people – it is the second leading cause of death among Aboriginal Australians and they are 1.4 times as likely to die from cancer than non-Aboriginal Australians. These is an urgent need to address the cultural barriers that impede access to cancer education, including prevention and early detection as well as providing supportive care for Aboriginal people undergoing treatment. In partnership with Western Australia Country Health Service (WACHS) and the Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA), delivered the Cancer Education Course for Aboriginal Health Professionals in Broome from June 14-18. The aim of this course was to provide education around all aspects of cancer control in a culturally inclusive manner.
