Colombian Independence Day is on Tuesday, but celebrations have already started in Invercargill at the weekend. More than 200 former Colombian refugees live in Southland and a lot of them were celebrating at the Southern Institute of Technology’s Hansen Hall on Saturday. The event was organised by the MAR Colombia Charity Trust, which is for Colombian immigrants in Southland, and the Southland Multicultural Council. Trust president Andrea Murrell said Saturday’s event was important to the Colombian community in Southland.

COIMBATORE: The district has seen an increasing number of child marriages during the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown to contain the contagion. As per the data available with the social welfare department, 21 minor girls were married off so far this year, compared to just three in 2020.
A social welfare department official said they were notified about 62 child marriages till date this year and had stopped 41 of them. In the case of the 21 marriages that were consummated, first information reports have been registered in 13 cases under relevant sections of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, while the remaining eight cases are under investigation.

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) The Latino Community Association has received a financial shot in the arm for its work empowering Latino families in Central Oregon through workforce training, youth education, health outreach and pandemic relief.
LCA requested a challenge grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust to motivate individuals and businesses in the community to contribute to their mission and, more specifically, their campaign to establish a Latino Family Empowerment Center.
